Are you a keen writer or blogger?

 

Raleigh International is looking for enthusiastic and creative people to join our international expeditions as a Communications Officers. Want to spend 13 weeks writing blogs and articles about sustainable development projects in a remote and exciting environment? We need volunteers from September 2017.

 

Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity, we believe in the passion and energy of young people from around the world to create long lasting positive change in some areas that need it most. We work with local people, governments and project partners to establish where our help is really needed.

 

Our programmes focus on providing access to safe water and sanitation, protecting vulnerable environments and building more resilient communities, all whilst developing the skills and confidence of young people. In order to safely and effectively run our expeditions we need volunteer managers to operate our projects and support the young volunteers.

 

When can I go?

 

Our expeditions run every January, June & July and September and we’re now recruiting for our September 2017 and January programmes in 2018.

 

Nicaragua & Costa Rica: 24 September – 19 December

Nicaragua & Costa Rica – 22 January – 18 April

Nepal – 25 January – 22 April

Malaysian Borneo – 28 January – 26 April

Tanzania – 31 January – 27 April

 

As a Communications Officer you will;

 

  • Visit the project sites to gather material for the expedition blogs and social media channels
  • Work closely with the expedition Photographer, volunteers and Project Managers to gather content to bring the expedition to life
  • Work closely with the support team to collaboratively run the expedition fieldbase

 

We encourage all our volunteers to fund raise before the expedition. This is an unpaid voluntary position however when you are in country we will cover;

 

  • All living expenses included during the expedition – food, accommodation, equipment
  • Full training and support before and during the expedition
  • Travel and medical insurance included
  • In country transport

Each participant was provided with procedural instruction and field identification guides. Access has been given to SFWMD lands infested with pythons in Miami-Dade, Broward and Collier counties. Participants will be paid:

 

A minimum wage hourly rate up to 8 hours daily. Time spent searching for pythons on SFWMD lands must be verified by a GPS tracking app installed on each participant’s iOS or Android mobile device.

An additional on-the-spot payment of $50 for each python measuring up to 4 feet plus an extra $25 for each foot measured above 4 feet. In the example below, an 8-foot python would pay out $150.

An additional $200 for each eliminated python found guarding “nests” with eggs.
